30 Aug American Cockroaches/Palmetto Bugs | How to Get Rid of Them!
American Cockroaches have been around for millions of years and will probably be here long after we are gone. They are highly adaptable and can subsist on a wide variety of food sources.
Many species of cockroaches are small, but the large ones, such as the Palmetto bugs, are the ones that people hate to see the most.
Palmetto bug is a common name given to any large cockroach, most often American Cockroach or Smokey Brown Cockroach. No other pest seems to gross people out more than seeing a 1-2 inch cockroach crawling across the floor or the kitchen counter!
You definitely don’t want these pests living inside your home or office. Not only are they unsightly, but they can pose a serious health problem if left untreated, including dysentery and poliomyelitis. They also give off allergens, similar to cat dander, that can trigger serious allergic reactions, especially in young children or the elderly.
Here are 4 things YOU can do to keep American Cockroaches/Palmetto bugs out of your home:
- Seal cracks around pipes, vents, cracks, louvers and eaves.
- Practice good sanitation by removing all food particles from the floor and countertops.
- Do not leave pet food out for long periods of time.
- Keep garbage in containers with tight fitting lids.
- Install door sweeps on exterior doors
No one wants to see Palmetto bugs in or around their home. It is not only unsightly, but it can be very embarrassing when friends or family are visiting.
